The Summoning Stone (The Dragonfire Fantasy Series)
Published in Paperback by Magespell (September, 2002)
Author: Jana G. Oliver
Average review score:

The Summoning Stone Rocks...
Jana has done the superb job of creating a sequel that is equal to or better than her first book.

The Summoning Stone is high fantasy and romance in it's best forms. It weaves magic, adventure, and dragons together with one of the most vile villians to leap off a page. You find yourself truly caring what happens to the characters through to the end of the book. Even then, you want to know - what happens next?

Oliver has left you truly wanting more, and what more can an author ask than to have readers demanding the next book in the series? The Summoning Stone will make you do just that.

A fine story, well-told
I read the first book of this series, The Circle of the Swan, on a cruise vacation this past fall. I couldn't wait to get the second book and find out what happens next in the world of adventure and romance that J. Oliver has created. I was not disappointed - the second book is as good as the first and even more finely crafted in some ways. It reminded me of a James Michener novel: a big story with big characters who love and laugh and cry and have grand and noble purpose to their lives. The setting and characters are realistic, with just enough magic and dragons sprinkled in to make it fun (rather like Harry Potter). There is somewhat more violence and sex in this book than the first, but it is not offensive and, like Michener, is rendered in a compassionate way that makes the characters human. From cover to cover, this book is pure storytelling - I highly recommend it!

The saga of Caewlin, a leader of men
Book Two of the "DragonFire" fantasy series by Jana G. Oliver, The Summoning Stone is an impressive and entertaining epic with a particularly Celtic mythos feel. It is the saga of Caewlin, a leader of men and his hazardous quest to defend his people and clan from a murderous conqueror. The fire-haired healing woman Aithne and Belwyn, the eldest son of a rival house rise with Caewlin to meet the ultimate challenge in this fantasy saga set in a far-off world of dragons, magic, and a land steeped in centuries of lore and ancient power.

The symbol stones of Scotland : a social anthropological resolution of the problem of the Picts

Questions Answered - Questions asked
It has been said (by me) "Without a doubt the best book on Pictish studies since Wainwright's "The Problem of the Picts" and just like that book, a great controversial entry to the field!"

What Jackson does rather well is to deliver a brilliant and complicated theory on the marriage system of Pictish society, which according to him was governed by a complicated set of rules based on the number seven. He also delivers a clear new interpretration of Sueno's stone and the overall message in the carved stones of Scotland's original people.

Pictish studies have been characterized (due to lack of actual evidence) by a lot of guesses and educated postulations - it all depends if you are in the Celtic camp or not - were they Celts? or were they a non Celtic people? The Picts were around till the 9th century and yet we know less about them than people who have disappeared for thousands of years. more research is needed.

Still tops after all these years
Many of the issues raised here are still unanswered.... only DNA will deliver the true answer... this 1950's book is still provocative and excellent!

Brilliant and provovative!
Without a doubt the best book on Pictish studies since Wainwright's "The Problem of the Picts" and just like that book, a great controversial entry to the field!

Jackson delivers a brilliant theory on the marriage system of Pictish society, which according to him was governed by a complicated set of rules based on the number seven. A brilliant book!

Take Two Apples and Call Me in the Morning
Published in Paperback by Hara Publishing (15 November, 2002)
Author: Judy Stone

Renewed Health
Before reading Take Two Apples and Call Me in the Morning, I was recovering from heart surgery and had gained fifty pounds. I tried to follow a low-fat diet, but I was always hungry for a carbo binge, and was on the verge of gaining more weight. Low energy, poor sleep, aching joints, and itchy skin made me miserable and grouchy. What a revelation this book was! Adding fat in the form of olive oil, butter, and flax oil to my diet, eliminating wheat/sugar products, and eating protein with veggies for meals and snacks was the key to improved health. Judy Stone clearly and thoroughly instructs the reader to throw out the legalism of all those other "diets" and to eat the food your body needs to heal itself and maintain health. Do you want strong bones, supple skin, strong hair and nails, energy, a feeling of not being hungry between meals? Get this book.

A different low-carb book
I've read many of the low carb books (Atkins, Eades, Heller, Zone etc.) and this one is different. First, it's got lots of health info that the others don't have or may only touch on. Second, it makes the science/medical stuff about the body super easy to understand and interesting to read. And third, it has a very positive, supportive tone for people who are trying to change, and lays things out in easy to follow steps instead of asking you to change everything at once. It also addresses the psychology of making changes and not just the food part. I'd recommend this book for anyone who was new to cutting carbs or an old hand at it. Also, it's got some great recipes--a great BBQ sauce, lots of main dishes that aren't heavy on the cream and butter, and others I haven't tried yet that look good. I'm a personal trainer and I've recommended this book to all my clients.

Enhanced with more than 100 recipes
Accessible written for the non-specialist general reader by Judy Stone (a former psychotherapist who has become an experienced and knowledgeable nutritionist), Take Two Apples And Call Me In The Morning: A Practical Guide To using The Power Of Food To Change Your Life! is a straightforward and "user friendly" guide to understanding and meeting the nutritional needs of one's body, while debunking myths and offering solid, reliable advice to eating a balanced diet, limiting artificial stimulants such as caffeine, developing delicious menu plans that benefit overall health, and much more. Enhanced with more than 100 recipes, Take Two Apples And Call Me In The Morning is very highly recommended reading for anyone seeking to alter their eating patterns and habits for the better.

Teddy Bears: From Start to Finish (Made in the USA)

My child loved this book!
My little girl loved this book. She has always adored teddy bears and now collects them. This summer we plan to take her to The Vermont Teddy Bear Company. She brought this book in for show and tell along with her favorite bear, and gave a short presentation on how teddy bears are made. I would certainly recommend this book.

Teddy bears are great!
This book is an excellent tutorial in how teddy bears are made and how great the VT teddy bear company is! I never wanted a teddy bear until I read this book. I live in VT and I am excited about going to the Vt Teddy bear company factory and purchasing my own teddy bear!

BEHIND THE SCENES AT VERMONT TEDDY BEAR FACTORY
An exciting, behind-the-scenes tour through the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory, where you can see step-by-step how teddy bears are made. Great full-color photos show you how the cloth is cut, how each bear is filled and sewn, and how their many outfits are created. Special sidebars on the company's history and other topics add additional fun background.

Titans: Scissors, Paper, Stone
Published in Paperback by DC Comics (May, 1997)
Authors: Adam Warren, Tom Simmons, and Joe Rosas
Average review score:

Very intelligent graphic novel
Not only is the art the usual high quality for Adam Warren, but the story is also one of his best.

This is Warren when he's most intelligent. A great read for the casual reader, this story also offers a highly intelligent, satiric meta-story about the stupidity of super-hero comics (sic!). Well worth the read if you like your comics more intelligent than just mindless action.

The only complaint I can really have about this are the garish colors, but that is a matter of taste.

Another well-done piece by Adam Warren!
Excellent one-issue Elseworlds story by Warren, which details the adventures of a new group of "Titans" in the far-future. Plenty of action, light-hearted angst, and psuedo-religious/scientific babble to get the story going. Plus a number of engaging and interesting characters making up the team.

Especially interesting was the "appearance" of a current DC superhero and how Warren managed to incorporate him into the new Titans! From beginning to slam-bang finish, this story is well worth your time and money.

I love this book!
I love this book! why? because ADAM(WAR!)WARREN made it. He is the best (American)Manga writer/artist or what some say 'wartist'. The book has action, comedy, and the usual asian- manga flavor. I f you love anime/manga you must get this book. If it's ADAM "war!" WARREN made it rules!

Tooter Pepperday (First Stepping Stone Books)
Published in Library Binding by Random Library (June, 1995)
Author: Jerry Spinelli

The Library Card
The Library Card is four short stories about kids who never thought they would ever be interested in reading until a "magical and mysterious" library card comes and takes these kids to the library and turns these lazy punks into inquiring minds. This is one of the best books I've ever read. I would recommend this book to anybody!

Moving Day for Tooter!
Have you ever wanted to run away from home? Well, Tooter does - she hates the smell on the farm and will do anything to get away! Tooter won't talk to anybody because she doesn't want to live on Aunt Sally's farm. Aunt Sally likes the silent treatment, but it drives dad crrrraaaaazzzzy! Tooter thinks she's going to croak because there isn't any McDonald's.

The book is great because its funny and interesting.
I liked this book because it contained funny stories. For example, Tooter handcuffs herself to the sink in protest over a move to a farm. She also walks around the farm with perfume to block out nasty smells. The end is heartwarming. I would recommend this book to people who like funny stories.

White Stone
Published in Paperback by James Corbett (2001)
Author: Jim Corbett
Average review score:

The most captivating and inspirational novel I've ever read.
This novel truly touched my heart and changed my life forever. A powerful story that reveals the awesome power of our living God, through people who have surrendered their lives to him.
It's very suspenseful and fun to read. I had a hard time putting it down. At the beginning of each chapter, I loved reading and was greatly inspired by the prophetic words from "From Our Father's Heart". A very well written novel.
I feel that the novel is truly anoited by God and felt a powerful presence of the Holy Spirt while reading it.

An applicable novel that will change your life!
I have never read a novel that was so applicable to our Christian walk. This book makes you look at how much of our Christian walk is "man-made" as opposed to "Holy Spirit" made! Awesome! It has changed the way that I view my relationship with Christ. Our teacher has got to be Jesus!

This book will change your life forever!
This book made me laugh, cry, gasp and repent. If you have ever wondered what God's will for your life is, this is the book to read. Take it seriously and it will change your life, forever!

Would You Like to Play Hide & Seek in This Book With Lovable, Furry Old Grover?: Featuring Jim Henson's Muppet (A Random House Pictureback)

Would you like to play hide and seek in this book
I read this to a class of 2/3 year olds and a class of 3/4 year olds and the kids ggigled through the whole book. They answered Grovers questions and wanted it read again and again. This is very similar to the Monster at the End of the Book. I highly recommend this book.

Great for kids
This was one of my all-time, absolute FAVORITE books as a small child. It was so silly and such fun. It still makes me smile.

Bonding with your child or young friend
I have been searching for this delightful book in children's stores for some time. I have five children and wore out two copies of this much loved book and I was thrilled to find it here! If you can try to imitate Grover's voice a bit when you read it to your child,it makes it even more special. The declaration at the end about the child being the reader's BEST FRIEND brought tears to my eyes almost everytime we read it.This book is a real TREASURE. I heartily encourage you to try this book out on your favorite,(or even troublesome child), and watch them melt as you tell them from the bottom of your heart,"You're my BEST FRIEND!"

You Gotta Be Bad Before You Can Be Good

You've got to be bad before you can be good!
Hi we've got this book in our CJP-NHRecord Office to show to anyone interested in obtaining a rewarding career in the Music Industry. This is one book they should read from cover to cover and cherish as a treasure. It's a full of great wisdom from a great gentleman who enriched the lives of so many and whose spirit is carried on and alive through Joan Carol, his wife, who is a great lady in her own right. Take the opportunity to read about WHY "you've got to be bad before you can be good" and then you can work toward the rewarding career in the Music Industry that Cliffie himself understood, loved, & lived so well. Thank you for letting me tell you IT'S WORTH YOUR purchase and actually UNDER priced for its value of knowledge enclosed. It will make a GREAT present for anyone this season and all year long. God Bless and now "BE GOOD!" & add it to your order!!

This is THE BOOK to buy!
The word on the street in L.A. & Nashville has been that this is THE BOOK to buy if you're serious about music. The people who told me this didn't even know who Cliffie is or that I knew him! The book has an extremely friendly & encouraging tone, which I appreciated. The thing that had the most profound effect on me was that I felt like Cliffie was talking directly to me! I felt like he was still with us - telling stories, imparting his wisdom & wit, and that this book was a labor of love, a gift to us after his passing. I felt like he was sitting on my shoulder the whole time I was reading it - I've read a lot of books and have never had that sensation before. (I'm getting chill bumps as I am writing this.) I would not be suprised to learn that he's sitting on lots of people's shoulders while they read this book. The front cover looks warm & friendly, and the copy leads the reader to believe there will be lots of useful, practical advice and suggestions inside, which there is. The back cover looks like a Cliffie & Joan Carol Production! They both look great and the graphic border compliments their Southwestern style. ( I'm a graphic artist as well as a musician, so the first thing I look at is the graphics!) Also, the quotes and their authors are extremely impressive! I don't think anyone has ever written a step-by-step comprehensive guide to moving ahead in the music business, especially one so accessible to the layperson. If I had read it 10 years ago, I could have saved myself a lot of time, energy & frustration; and reading it at this point in my career will help me move ahead more efficiently. We, as the readers, get to benefit from "The Master's" (Hey - I'm not the only one who calls him that!) vast experience & expertise.

You Gotta Be Bad Before You Can Be Good
It is a rare opportunity to recieve knowledge from one who has done it all, writes from experience, passes on the lessons. It is a book you will want to refer to over and over again as you journey down music road.

keeps you thinking
This book is written to keep you on the edge of your seat and then relaxing back. Steve's writing is an unexpecting turn of events when the reader believes they have figured it out the mystery and romance. The book is very hard to put down and leaves you wanting more.

I really loved this book.
A wonderful novel! I was very surprised. I loved the romance
scenes. I really loved this book and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good mystery/romance novel. I can't wait to read the next book by this author!
